NOVA Medical School had the pleasure of hosting its first-ever course on Medical Writing, featuring an excellent presentation by Martin Delahunty on Medical Communication and Artificial Intelligence.

His deep expertise, combined with an engaging and interactive teaching style, made this complex and timely topic easy to grasp.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Martin Delahunty - Managing Director of Inspiring STEM Consulting, and European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) AI Working Group member - who joined our regular Wednesday training session to speak to our team about the application and impact of AI in scientific publications.

Martin provided a comprehensive overview of AI, shedding light on the development of generative AI tools, and the potential of these, and other tools, to improve the way we work. He delved into the benefits, challenges, and limitations of these tools, emphasizing key considerations including accuracy, confidentiality, data security and protection, and intellectual property.

We also had the opportunity to discuss how we can continue Aspire’s preparations for the AI era, including the further development of our processes to verify tools, and policies to manage their use. Martin shared key examples of currently available AI tools applicable to the med comms industry, sparking ideas on how we can leverage these innovations to become more effective and efficient in our work.

I want to thank Martin for his exceptional work moderating our recent speaker panel at the Society for Scholarly Publishing's Annual Meeting.

He skillfully guided the conversation around implementing generative AI while staying true to publishing values, and ensured all panelists had the opportunity to share their insights. His thoughtful questions and audience polling sparked engaging discussions, while his ability to keep the event on schedule made for a seamless experience.

The panel’s success was in no small part due to Martin's professionalism, poise, and clear dedication to fostering an informative and dynamic dialogue on an exciting new frontier in the industry.

We had the privilege of working with Martin to enhance the prestige and impact factor of our journal. He has a deep understanding of the nuances of scientific publishing, which was evident in the strategic guidance he provided to our team.

Martin’s approach was both insightful and practical, helping us navigate complex challenges and implement strategies to elevate our journal’s standing in the academic community. His ability to come up with ideas that we hadn't tried before was truly impressive.  We thought we had tried everything, but Martin proved that this wasn't the case.

The initiatives Martin introduced have already started showing positive results. We are confident that the improvements we have made with Martin’s guidance will have a lasting impact on our journal’s growth and recognition.  We highly recommend Martin for any project that seeks a knowledgeable and strategic partner in the publishing sector.
